# AI Apps (MCP)

> Use Invent from ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, Cursor and other AI apps

Connect an AI app to Invent and work with your organizations from where you already chat. The app can read and change anything the [Invent API](/api-reference/getting-started/introduction) offers, as you, inside the limits you choose.

Invent speaks the [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) (MCP). Every app uses the same address:

```
https://api.useinvent.com/mcp
```

## Connect an app

Add a custom connector or MCP server with the address above. The app opens an Invent page where you sign in and choose what it can do.

| App | How to add it |
| :- | :- |
| ChatGPT | Settings → Security and login: turn on **Developer mode**. Then Plugins → **+** → **Create app** → **Create MCP App**, paste the address and keep OAuth |
| Claude | Open [Invent in Claude's directory](https://claude.ai/directory/invent) and click **Connect** |
| Claude Code | `claude mcp add --transport http invent https://api.useinvent.com/mcp`, then `/mcp` to sign in |
| Codex | `codex mcp add invent --url https://api.useinvent.com/mcp`, then `codex mcp login invent` |
| Cursor | Add `"invent": { "url": "https://api.useinvent.com/mcp" }` under `mcpServers` in `mcp.json` |
| OpenCode | Add `"invent": { "type": "remote", "url": "https://api.useinvent.com/mcp" }` under `mcp` in `opencode.json`, then `opencode mcp auth invent` |
| Other apps | Add an MCP server with the address. Apps that support MCP sign-in open the same page. |

## Choose what it can do

The sign-in page lists your organizations. For each one, pick what the app can do:

| Access | What the app can do |
| :- | :- |
| **None** | Nothing. The organization stays out of the connection. |
| **View** | Read data. Every change is refused. |
| **Write** | Read and change data. |

The app never gets more than your own role allows. If you can't edit tables in an organization, the app can't either, even with **Write**.

A few well-known apps, like Claude, show a verified mark and their domain on the sign-in page. Any other app shows where it returns after you decide: allow it only if you started the connection yourself.

## Tools

The app gets one tool per everyday task, the same ones the Invent chat uses. Tools that change data work only in organizations with **Write**.

| Area | Tools |
| :- | :- |
| Organizations | `list_orgs`: the organizations the connection can use, with their access. Start here. |
| Inbox | List conversations, read messages, reply, add a note, assign, resolve or reopen, mute, turn AI replies on or off. |
| Contacts | Search, read, list fields, read and add comments. |
| Tables | List tables, read the schema and views, search and read records, create and update records, read and add comments. |
| Knowledge, pages and segments | Search the knowledge base, list its content and stats, read pages, list segments. |
| Assistants and agents | List and read assistants and agents, list routines and triggers. |
| Chats, members and broadcasts | List and read chats, list members, list and read broadcasts with their analytics. |
| Analytics | Organization summary and response times. |

For anything else, apps other than ChatGPT and Codex also get four tools that reach the whole API: `search_operations` finds an operation, `get_operation` describes its arguments, `read_api` runs a read and `write_api` runs a change.

## Manage connected apps

Go to **Account** → **Connected apps** to see every connected app, the organizations it can use and when it was last used.

* **Edit access** changes the organizations and the access. The app follows the change on its next request.
* **Disconnect** ends the connection right away. Nothing the app created is deleted.
* A connection that goes unused for 90 days ends on its own. If your organization limits sign-in sessions with [SSO](/workspace-management/sso/access-policy), the connection ends with your session.

Changes made by a connected app show **Connected app** as their source in the [audit log](/workspace-management/audit-logs).

## Use an API key instead

Scripts and servers can use an [API key](/workspace-management/api-keys) with the same address. Send it as a header:

```bash theme={"system"}
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY
```
